Ah, humor. What a lovely blessing it is to be able to forget about our troubles for a bit and just giggle or bust a gut at something stupid, silly, or just plain ridiculous. If you’re in need of a laugh or two…or 5, look no further than these 9 books. There’s something for everyone!
1. Class by Lucinda Rosenfeld
This satire-heavy novel follows a mother whose life begins to completely unravel after she is forced to rethink her very liberal views and perspectives.
2. Our Marriage Counselor by Carl Tiktin
This hilariously absurd story follows married couple Thaddeus and Beverly Carmichael as they enter marriage counseling with marriage therapist Jonathan Meltzer. Jonathan soon begins to fall for Beverly, and rather than become extremely upset at his wife and therapist, Thaddeus plots to encourage the romance so he can sue the Jamaica Family Center and get a huge check.
3. On Turpentine Lane by Elinor Lipman
32 year old Faith Frankel, a woman whose profession includes writing official thank you notes, gets in over her head when she moves into her recently purchased home on Turpentine Lane.
4. All Grown Up by Jami Attenberg
At almost 40 years old, Andrea Bern is happily living a single, kidless life. She’s completely content with her lifestyle, though Andrea soon begins to question her own future and must create her own idea of ‘success’ and adulthood.
5. Royce Rolls by Margaret Stohl
This spin on Hollywood chick-lit has been praised as a very entertaining read. When teenage socialite Bentley Royce’s (yes, that’s her real name) reality show, Rolling with the Royces, begins to fall apart along with her family relationships, Bentley has to think of something quick to keep her and her family on the top of the social ladder.
6. Wait Till You See Me Dance by Deb Olin Unferth
Wait Till You See Me Dance is a 200 page collection of short stories that are light-hearted, humorous, and intellectually seductive. You’ll never read anything like this.
7. The Arrangement by Sarah Dunn
I think this would be an entertaining one to read with your partner! The Arrangement follows a married couple who decide to have an open marriage for a limited time. Yeah, this one goes there.
8. Trump’s America: Buy This Book and Mexico Will Pay for It by Scott Dikkers
I mean, this one is pretty self-explanatory. Perfect for the non-Trump supporter in your life. You could also give this to a friend/family member who voted for him just to irritate them.
9. Startup by Doree Shafrir
Shafrir is currently one of the executive editors at Buzzfeed, and in Startup, she’s created the tech-smart Mack McAllister whose app, TakeOff, is a 600 million dollar idea. The novel follows Mack as he works toward bringing his entrepreneurial ideas to life as well as navigating through youth, romance, and money.
May these novels make you #hehe, #haha, and all the rest!
